How To...

Upload your files using FTP

Use FTP software (such as WSFTP or CuteFTP) to connect / log in to the following FTP Host Address: ftp.yourdomain.co.uk or ftp.yourdomain.com

Use your domain name yourdomain.co.uk as the username and the password as the one you specified. (Note that some users may have a different username that will have been sent to you by E-mail when we set up your domain name.)

If you are on our Windows 2000 hosting service, you will need to place any HTML files in the folder called “htdocs” for them to be available on the internet. Files not placed in this folder will not be seen on the internet.

If you are on our Unix / WebMail service, you can upload your HTML files straight into the folder that you log into. You will also see a folder called cgi-bin where you can place any scripts you need to use.

There is normally an FTP / web-space limit of 10MB which is extendable on request. (This does not always incur an extra fee but prevents unfair use of the various resources available.)

Access your e-mail:

You can log into your E-mail using any standard POP3 E-mail software, such as MS Outlook or Outlook Express.

To do this in Microsoft Outlook, click on Tools and then Accounts, choose the Mail tab and click on the Add button and then Mail.

Type in your name as you would like it to appear in the “From” field of your outgoing E-mail messages. For example: “Mr. A Person.”

Type in your E-mail address: e.g. aperson@yourdomain.co.uk

Type in the following E-mail server addresses:

Incoming POP3 Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.co.uk

Outgoing SMTP Mail Server: mail.yourisp.net

Where “yourdomain” is the domain name you registered with us and “yourisp” is your dial-up ISP’s outgoing SMTP mail server. E.g. mail.btinternet.com or mail.ntlworld.com

If you are using Fasthosts Dial, you can use smtp.yourdomain.co.uk

Next you will need to enter your Username and Password. If you are on our Windows 2000 hosting service, you will need to enter your E-mail address as your username for example aperson@yourdomain.co.uk

If you are using our Unix / WebMail service you will have been sent your username.

You will also have been sent, for either service, your password for use with your E-mail.

The Unix service also provides WebMail which can be accessed from http://webmail.yourdomain.co.uk by entering your normal username and password.

Set up e-mail accounts, auto-responders and forwarding:

If you have a personal control panel, you can do this using the E-mail facility at http://cp.yourdomain.co.uk (your personal control panel.)

If you do not have this facility, please contact us.

Use your control panel:

If you have purchased a separate control panel, or a domain name from our gold package, you will be able to access your personal control panel for your domain name at http://cp.yourdomain.co.uk using the username and password that we will have sent to you.

The options on the left hand menu allow you to configure your domain name. Domain setting includes items such as FrontPage extensions and the settings for using your domain name.

If you have Password-protected folders, you will be able to access the password protection facility and add and remove password protection on various folders.

You can also use the FTP and E-mail controls to set up new E-mail facilities and change your FTP password.

Change Password allows you to change the control panel password you use.

Set up password-protected folders:

To set up password-protected folders (such as http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/securefolder), you will first need to create folders in your web-space using the 'Make Folder' facility in your FTP program.

Then log into your control panel at http://cp.yourdomain.co.uk (if you do not have this then please use the request password protected folders facility on the http://www.wd-uk.com/support web-site or e-mail us.)

Select 'Add Password-Protected Folder' and then type the name of the folder, the master password, and a path to a text file where you can store the usernames and passwords for this folder, for example secure1.txt

You can set up as many different instances of the password protection as you would like.

Create a text file (e.g. in MS Windows Notepad) and save it in the same name as the above (e.g. secure1.txt) Enter the various usernames and passwords, one per line in the format of username=password as below:

Fredbloggs=123456
Johnsmith=apple
Gilessmith=dsljfdfsg

Save it and upload the file using FTP to the root folder of your web-space. (i.e. not in the htdocs or any other sub-folders in your web-space.)

You will then see a username and password prompt when you access the URL you have chosen. (In the form of http://www.yourdomain.co.uk/securefolder )
